What is a Third Option State?

Third Option is a coalition of passionate adoption professionals and pro-life individuals who see a need to elevate adoption as an option for those facing unplanned pregnancy. We believe this is done through adoption education and birth parent support. We suggest better adoption education for professionals, students, and the medical community. And we place a strong focus on birth parent support and resources. 

Adoption education for professionals has largely been steered by adoption agencies seeking to gain referrals to their agencies. Third Option thinks we can do better in providing adoption education for professionals in a way that informs mothers with unintended pregnancies about adoption, without being pressured by an adoption agency. 

Adoption education for students has largely been missing from the middle school and high school curricula. Third Option aims to make adoption education in public schools the standard across the country.

How About Birth Parent Support and Resources?

Third Option recognizes that real, multi-tiered birth parent support is missing from the adoption space. Part of Third Option’s mission is to provide real birth parent support in a variety of formats at no cost to the birth parent. Up until now, birth parents were not provided with any merit-worthy birth parent resources. Birth parents were offered counseling via the adoption agency staff and little else. Now, birth parent resources can be offered to any birth parent who has placed a child for adoption as long as their state is participating in Third Option’s program.
